padmasana

Last night's yoga class was a sequence leading us into lotus (padmasana). I thoroughly enjoyed the preparation. And then I laughed. I was drummed out of ballet at age 11, the reason being my ballet teacher realized my mother was wasting her money on my lessons. There was no future for me in the ballet world. I have no turn out. In yoga that translates as I have very limited external rotation in my hips. My joints just don't go there. My dear sweet teacher said padmasana is an advanced pose, but knowing you can't get into it is an advanced practice. After class, I told the woman who easily bent herself into the shape, that I was happy to see someone enjoy the pose. Ah, but wait until we work on pincha mayurasana (elbow balance). My body has all the correct anatomy for that one.
