a trip 400 miles south

amorphophallus

From the garden of our lodging in Pasadena, the voodoo lily was unfolding itself. Mike had done a good job of finding us perfect accommodations. Not only was the garden to my liking, but the house made us just want to settle in.

I'm sorry but I didn't get a photo of Spartacus (Denise's other dog) or Michal's (the proprietor) cat. After a tour of the garden we were given a glass of wine to enjoy in front of the fireplace.

a delayed posting on the first day of spring

The first day of spring, marked our thirty second wedding anniversary and from the looks of city hall in Pasadena some other couples had the same idea that it might be a good day for a wedding.

a new persona (see 2/16/14 posting)

Simple, clean, and hopefully, keeping the ice cream frozen. The old frig was giving up the ghost, and trying to avert disaster, we replaced it. We discovered that all stainless steel is not created equal, and Frigidaire stainless will allow magnets to attach. An important feature. Mike brought a magnet with him to Sears so we could make sure this was true. So off with everything, and a serious culling took place. Important items were re-attached however.

My ticket stub from a day game that Rod Beck pitched himself out of bases loaded in the 10th inning with no outs.

And the note that accompanied several cans of Fancy Feast given to us as a thank you. Charlie lived down the street and wouldn't have known what to do if he actually ever caught one of our cats.

aesculus californica

I love buckeyes for several reasons. One being they remind me of Marin county, especially "Camp Taylor", and two, they are easy to propagate. I was very worried this year because I thought the 2013 crop was a failure. I had collected them late and let them go longer than usual before planting. But not giving up hope, I kept watering seemingly empty pots, and they surprised me and popped up recently. The first two in the foreground were collected in December from Devil's Gulch.

the goddess is back in the water

I pulled up to the shop this morning and there was an AC45 in Seaplane Lagoon. I smiled. I've missed Artemis. We watched her sail out into the bay and  back into the lagoon today. Not sure why, but glad to know she's still around.
